Allegra Birdseye-Hannula

Allegra Birdseye-Hannula is a lifelong learner, youth worker, learning and development specialist, and public speaker by trade. She is passionate about delivering impactful communication and de-escalation strategies to help youth workers address the needs of prickly youth.

As youth workers, we can teach youth better communication and de-escalation techniques that have a ripple effect into the rest of our collective communities. How to Talk to Porcupines is just one piece of the youth work and social justice puzzle.

Spikey – The O.G.

Spikey the Porcupine.

Spikey has been with us since the start of How to Talk to Porcupines. Representing all prickly personalities, Spikey’s quills go up when Spikey feels threatened, challenged, or has an unmet need.

But Spikey is so cute, it’s hard to be flustered for long. And with our programming, coaching, and resources, you can feel confident you’ll know how to work with Spikey when quills appear.

How to Talk to Porcupines offers a powerful set of tools and practical solutions to the most important challenge for today’s youth workers – communication breakdowns with youth.
